Mathis McBride, 79 of New Haven departed this life July 21, 2010. Mathis was born April 2, 1931 in Dawson, GA to the late Cecil & Mary Ann Anderson McBride. He was a member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. Mathis worked as a housing code inspector for the City of New Haven until his retirement. He served as past President of the Walter Pop Smith Baseball League for New Haven. As a member of I.B.P.O.E. of W. East Rock Lodge #141, he served as State Youth Director. He leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Patricia Sullivan McBride of New Haven; sons, Curtis M. McBride (Alicia) and Anthony D. Stewart, both of New Haven; daughters, Patricia Ward of Windsor, Junita Walker Kirkland (Willie), Carol McBride, Connie McBride all of FL and Sylvia Antrum (Curtis) of New Haven; sister, Ida Clarke of New Haven; 14 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, 1 sister, 1 grandchild and 1 great grandchild.

Don't think of him as gone away, his journey's just begun.
Life holds so many facets this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days or years.
Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.

PERSON'S IN MY CHAIRPERSON SEAT HE (COOKED,SHOP,PARADE MARSHALL)
AND DID ALOT OF THINGS WITHOUT BEING ASKED.ALWAY'S MADE SURE IF
TRAVELING IN ELKDOM HAD TRANSPORATION,AND HAD LITTLE BREAKFAST TO START OFF BEFORE GOING TO MEETINGS,THE YOUTH DEPT WAS HIS BABY
AND MY HUSBAND BRO,KING HELPED HIM ALONG BY HONORING HIM DURNING STATE CONVENTION,FOR MANY GIFTS AND TALENT SHARED
WITH THE KIDS.IN POPS SMITH THE LATE DEWITT JONES INTRODCED ME TO
MATT,AND ONE SAT MORNING WALKED WITH HIM ON THEIR OPENING DAY
AT THE FEILD.IT GAVED ME GREAT PLEASURE TO SHARE THAT EXPERIENCE
AND PART OF HIS SAT MORNING &AFTERNOON SPORT'S ACTIVITIES,IN MY FIRST YEAR "1990",WALTER POPS SMITH TEAMS CAME OUT TO SUPPORT ME
AS THE FIRST AFRO-AMERCIAN CHAIR LADY,THOSE BALL PLAYER'S WERE
LOOKING GOOD IN THEIR UNIFORMS AN GAVE ME AN SALUATE THAT MY
MY YEAR'S IN FREDDY FIXER SHOW ME THAT THE COMMUNITY AND KIDS HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD IN THE YEAR'S AHEAD OF THEM.MAY
