Mrs. Iola Vann Hunt – Matriarch of Six Generation Family
Waterbury, CT - January 22, 2012
Mrs. Iola Vann Hunt, 97 of 44 Abbott Terrace, departed this life January 22, 2012, after a brief illness. Mrs. Hunt was born September 23, 1914 in Winton, NC, daughter of the late David and Martha (Taylor) Vann. Mrs. Hunt, known as "mommo" to her family, is survived by her daughter, Evangeline Butler of Waterbury, a son-in-law, Frederick Camp, of Waterbury, a sister, Priscilla Crawford, of Washington, DC, a stepsister, Mildred Charity of Winton, NC; granddaughters, Jamie Dean and her husband Willie of Waterbury, Elissa Velez and her husband Jose of Wolcott, Dedra Camp of Waterbury; grandsons James Butler and his wife Norma of Waterbury, Alan Butler and his wife Robin of Waterbury, Daniel Myrick of Waterbury; three generations of grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Willie Anderson Hunt, a daughter, Louise Myrick, sisters Cherry Alexander, Carrie Gary, Eldora Myrick and brothers, Herbert Vann, Percell Vann, Riddick Vann, Calvin Vann, David Vann, Fred Lee Vann and William Vann.
Mrs. Hunt received her education in the Winton, NC school system. She retired from the manufacturing industry after 30 years of dedicated service. Never missing a day of work, she was recognized as a loyal employee. Mrs. Hunt loved the Lord and was a faithful parishioner of Zion Baptist church, uplifting the gospel chorus and the congregation with her distinguishable base voice. "Oh How I Love Jesus" and "What a Mighty GOD We Serve" are two hymns that were very dear to her heart. She was also an avid cook specializing in southern cooking. She is very loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
