Freddie L. Jones 86, of Hamden, departed this life on February 18, 2012. He was born on June 30, 1925 in Norfolk, VA to the late Paul and Mattie Davis Jones. Mr. Jones is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Marguerite Hopkins Jones. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for 25 years. While stationed in New London, CT, he attended culinary school in New Haven. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1963 after tour of duty stops in the Philippines, North Africa and bases throughout the United States. After his military career Mr. Jones worked as a track maintenance supervisor for Conrail in New York. He will be remembered for being a dedicated husband and father, and loving all his family and friends. He also loved cooking and the New York Yankees. Mr. Jones leaves to honor and cherish his memory, his devoted children: Kathy D. Jones of New Haven, Freddie L. Jones Jr. of Tucson, AZ, Mark D. Jones (Katherine) of Norwich, and Christopher S. Jones of Hamden; grandson, Mark D. Jones Jr.; 3 step-grandchildren and sister Mary J. Brooks of Norfolk, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Lillie Burks, Roxanna Jones and Virginia Forbes, 4 brothers, James, John, Paul and Nathaniel Jones. Mr. Jones was known for his spirited personality, witty sense of humor, and a smile that would light up a room. The family would like to thank the staff at Arden House of Hamden and Connecticut Hospice of Branford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT 06518 and Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
